Practical Poker Tips

We offer you a set of poker tips that will help you to avoid common mistakes made by most beginners.

Value your skills

The worst attitude a poker player may have is excessive self esteem. If you experience difficulties to win at a certain table, put your pride aside and go to a table with lower limits.

Do not rely on luck

Luck, of course, is an important factor, but in the long run, what determines the result is pure statistic. So, forget about the luck factor and fold when your initial hand is bad. Professional players play only 20 to 30 percent of their hands.

Watch your opponents

The best time to study your opponents habits is when you are not emotionally involved, like after folding or when not playing the hand. Watch and learn as much as you can about each opponent personally. Pay attention to how, when and how much they bet.

Know when to fold

Remember that many hands are worth folding. Do not be afraid to fold if you think it is reasonable.

Use betting

Betting can be used for various purposes. Apart from raising the pot, betting can serve to give you information. A re-raise can tell you a lot about the credibility of your opponent's hand, while an early placed defensive bet can avoid calling a bigger future bet.

Bluff moderately

One of the common mistakes made by beginners is abusing bluffing. Bluffs are effective only when used rarely, at the right time and in the right situation. Bluff when others do not expect you to bluff, and when your opponent does not seem to call.

Accumulate knowledge

There are many universal poker techniques that can work for everyone, but poker skills on the whole are always composed of small personal methods each player selects for himself. So, try different things and see what works for you and what does npt and then write them down or memorize them.

Be dynamic

Techniques are always good, but following them blindly does not work in poker. A good poker player must be dynamic to not let others predict his moves. Occasionally bluffing and taking risks may make you lose some money, but not doing so, you will probably lose more.

Players positions

The position of the player is much more important that it may seem. The player who bets first is in the worst situation. He can not tell a thing about other hands, because they still did not make their moves. The best position is that of the dealer. He sees what all other players did and it helps him make his decision.
