Horseshoe Casino representatives announced on Thursday their intentions to build a new riverboat casino. The riverboat casino will be decked along the Hammond shore, and it will create 400 new jobs.
The citys Port Authority Board and Redevelopment Commission approved the plan. Horseshoe Casino owners are now waiting for the final city board approval. The announcement on the Horseshoe riverboat casino project arrived only a week after Blue Chip Casino launched its riverboat casino in Michigan City.
Majestic Star Casino LLC, the owner of the two Gary riverboats, plans to build an entertainment center, a convention area and a second hotel. The Horseshoe project could be ready in two years.
Horseshoe Casino now has about 2,150 workers and it is considered as one of the 10 busiest casinos in Indiana in 2005. The new casino boat will be located near the current land based casino operated by the Hammond Yacht Club.
