When the leader of a gambling ring goes out without his laptop the police have a peek

A big break in an ongoing police investigation of an illegal gambling ring came when one of the suspected ring leaders left his laptop computer in his hotel room when he and his wife went to a wedding recently.

Aided with a search warrant the police used this rare separation between Laptop and owner to their advantage, when they entered into the couple’s hotel room and made a digital copy of the computers laptop.

Once the computers hard drive was copied police were able to thoroughly search thru it to see if any incriminating evidence could be found.

What they found way well beyond what anyone had previously suspected.

They found evidence of a billion dollar a year operation, with more then 2000 bookies involved.

The betters would go to a secure web site where they could place bets monitor the point spread and see results of sporting events.

So far 26 people have been charged with involvement in this the larges illegal gambling operation in New York’s history according to the NYPD police commissioner.

So far search warrants have allowed police to confiscate millions of dollars in suspected gambling related cash and jewelry.
