AGA embraces new approach to regulation of online gambling in the US

For those who do not know, American Gaming Association represents the commercial casino entertainment industry. It addresses federal legislative and regulatory issues. The American Gaming Association (AGA) opened its office in Washington, D.C., in June 1995 with the fundamental goal of creating a better understanding of the gaming entertainment industry by bringing facts about the industry to the general public, elected officials, other decision makers and the media through education and encouragement. In addition, the AGA has an aggressive public education program designed to bring the industry's message to target audiences both in the nation's capital and across the country.

American Gaming Association (AGA) has changed its position regarding online gambling. It looks like internet gaming will be legal after all in the US. Million of Americans gamble online and UK countries are in the process of legalizing, regulating and taxing online gaming. AGA strongly supports the creation of a one-year Congressional study commission that would evaluate the impact of online gambling. The study commission will consider issues like child protection, gambling addiction and the affectivity of online legalization.

Online gaming is subject full of controversies, however, AGA recognizes ineffective efforts to ban online gambling in the US. Analysts suggest that the news from the AGA is significant. "In our view it materially moves the goal posts, it clearly makes the passing of any prohibitive legislation more difficult." Nevertheless, the possibility of regulation in the US is going to take some time. Even if a Congressional study argues for online industry's legalization, this would still take a number of years to enact, meaning that the current status quo will remain for some time to come. On the downside, legalization would lead to significantly enhanced levels of competition.
